About Annaprashana Puja | अन्नप्राशन पूजा

Sanskrit for 'grain initiation'. Marks the 1st Intake of solid food by the infant. Part of the shodasha (16) sanskaras

When a new born Is old enough to start eating solid foods, a special festival called Annaprashana (sanskrit for 'grain initiation) Is held. Weaning typically takes place between the ages of six and eight months.

After this ceremony, other weaning foods are introduced to the new-born's diet. Most often, the Annaprashan ceremony takes place in a temple or a private residence.

Annaprashan is performed on an auspicious day and time, determined in consultation with the priest. The baby is all dressed up In his or her brand new traditional garb. Puja and a havan are performed at the beginning of the Annaprashan ceremony to pray for the baby's health, wealth, and happiness. After the pula, the baby tastes his first solid food. The baby's plate contains a wide selection of foods like purl, haiwa, kheer, sabzi etc.
